The Mastersingers of Nuremberg Act III
It’s 20 years since State Opera mounted the first Australian production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle. State Opera celebrates this milestone with a special gala performance of Wagner’s Mastersingers of Nuremberg Act III.
The third act of Mastersingers is of course the famed singing contest, as the ardent young Walther, guided by the wise cobbler Hans Sachs, competes for the hand of the beautiful Eva. Not even the opposition of his vengeful rival Beckmesser can stand in the way of his ultimate triumph.
The concert marks the welcome return to our roster of Kate Ladner as Eva, Bradley Daley as Walther, Shane Lowrencev as Hans Sachs and acclaimed British Wagner specialist Andrew Shore as Beckmesser.
Sung in German, with English surtitles proudly sponsored by the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation.
